Charsadda residents continue boycott of polio drive

CHARSADDA: The residents of Behram Dheri union council of Tangi tehsil continued their sit-in for the second day on Tuesday, and also announced a Rs10,000 fine on parents, who will defy a local jirga decree to not get their children vaccinated against polio, in protest against disconnection of electricity supply to the area for last 46 days.

The protest camp has been set up in Kalano Kallay area. The jirga members also announced not to send their children to school till restoration of electricity supply to the union council. The elders also stopped polio teams from entering the locality. They said no polio teams would be allowed till their demand was met.

It merits a mention here that Pesco had cut electricity supply to the union council from the Malakand grid over a month ago.

Addressing the protesters, former union council nazim Maazullah, Asim Gujjar, Khanzadda and others said the UC was facing severe water shortage owing to power disconnection. They claimed Pesco had made 90 per cent recovery from the union council.
