KOHAT: The office-bearers of leaseholders’ association of tehsil municipal administration have rejected the TMA order to vacate the shops leased to them decades ago, and demanded that the municipal body amend the relevant laws to extend their lease period.

The decision was made at a meeting held here the other day.

The association’s chairman Faheem Shah and others appealed to chairman of parliamentary committee on Kashmir Shehryar Afridi, chairman of district development advisory committee Ziaullah Bangash and tehsil municipal officer Amin Gul not to snatch bread and butter of their children from them.

Mr Shah said the shops were constructed by the leaseholders on their own, and they could not afford to hire new shops.

Meanwhile, TMO Amin Gul said leases of the shops had ended long ago, and now the government had ordered their fresh auction on the fresh market rates because the TMA was bearing millions of losses every month.

MALIK SAAD REMEMBERED: A special ceremony was held at the grave of former capital city police officer Malik Saad in Ghulam Banda area to pay tribute to him for sacrificing his life for the country’s sake.

Malik Saad was martyred in a suicide attack in Mohallah Dhaki Dalgran during inspection of security arrangements for Muharram on January 27, 2007.

Wife of the martyred police officer, his two sons, Malik Salim Khan and Malik Qasim Khan, office-bearers of Malik Saad Shaheed Sports Trust and Foundation, DIG Kohat division Tahir Ayub, district police officer Mohammad Suleman and others were in attendance.

The DIG and DPO presented salutes of honour and laid floral wreaths at the grave of the martyred police officer and offered prayers for the departed soul.

PAVEMENT OF PATH: Work on pavement of the entry point to the small industrial estate, Dhoda, has started.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Haji Rasheed Paracha, the executive body member of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said industrialists had long demanded a paved path to the entry point of the estate from the main road.

He said after pavement of the entry point the estate would also be provided gas from the main pipeline going to the Kohat city and Punjab.
