President Alvi seeks early completion of cyber project

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has directed the officials concerned to speed up the process of parliament’s digital transformation by equipping it with the latest tools at the earliest.

“E-solutions will significantly enhance the efficiency of parliament as well as help in the quick disposal of legislative business,” the president said.

Presiding over a meeting on President’s Initiative on Cyber Efficient Parliament, Dr Alvi directed the relevant authorities to prioritise the deliverables of the project and take timely decisions to avoid any further delay.

Senate Deputy Chairman Mirza Mohammad Afridi and senior government officials attended the meeting during which the project’s steering committee gave a briefing on its current status and various processes involved in the digital transformation. The committee members apprised the president that they had been serious in completing the project in the given time frame. However, President Alvi asked them to expedite work on the project.

SAPM calls on president

Retired Brig Musaddiq Abbasi, meanwhile, called on President Alvi a couple of days after his appointment as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Accountability and Interior was notified.

A photo officially released after the meeting showed him sitting in front of the president. It was said to be a courtesy call.

SAPM Abbasi, who has earlier served in key positions in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), is a member of the board of directors of Accountability Lab, an NGO working for capacity building of Public Accounts Committee members and provincial accountability bodies in collaboration with the World Bank.

It is expected that he will achieve the task that his predecessor Shahzad Akbar was supposed to accomplish.
