MPA Burhan Chandio denied bail in triple murder case

DADU: The Model Criminal Trial Court of Dadu on Friday rejected bail application of PPP MPA Nawab Burhan Chandio, a former adviser to Sindh chief minister, but granted bail to his brother Sardar Nawab Chandio (also a PPP MPA) in the same case of Chandios’ triple murder after which SSP formed a team of seven SHOs led by a DSP to arrest the MPA.

The two brothers along with five other suspects, identified as Ali Gohar, Sattar, Sikandar, Murtaza and Zulfiqar, were nominated as accused in the triple murder of Raees Karamullah Chandio, the then chairman of the Baldai union council of Mehar taluka, his two sons, Mukhtiar Chandio, then member of district council, and Mukhtiar Chandio, head of Tumandar Council. They were killed when a group of armed men attacked their residence in Ahmed Colony in Mehar taluka on Jan 17, 2018. One of the attackers was also killed in retaliatory fire by the inmates.

Police team formed to arrest lawmaker

The bereaved family, which was politically associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party, believed that the attack was carried out at the behest of Nawab Sardar Chandio, who was chieftain of his tribe in Mehar, and his younger brother, Nawab Burhan Chandio, the then aide to the Sindh chief minister.

Sardar Nawab appeared in the court but his brother Nawab Burhan did not attend the hearing.

The court granted bail to PPP Nawab Sardar for a surety of Rs500,000 and rejected the bail application of Nawab Burhan and the main accused in the case, Ali Gohar Chandio, who was already in police custody and fixed date of next hearing for Feb 18.

Umme Rubab Chandio, daughter of Mukhtiar Chandio who was one of the two slain sons of Rais Karamullah, told journalists outside the court that she was partly satisfied with the verdict and would soon challenge approval of the bail application of Sardar Nawab Chandio in Sindh High Court.

Pervaiz Ahmed Chandio, another son of late Karamullah Chandio who was complainant of the case, said the rejection of Burhan Chandio’s bail was a victory of the people of Sindh.

Meanwhile, Dadu SSP formed a team of seven SHOs led by Mehar DSP Younis Rodhnani to arrest Burhan Chandio.
