JUI-F candidate fined over poll code violation in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: District Monitoring Officer (DMO), Dera Ismail Khan, Hayatullah Jan has imposed Rs50,000 fine on Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s candidate for the city mayor slot Mohammad Kafeel Nizami for printing pictures of a government servant on publicity material, thus committing violation of the election code of conduct.

The JUI-F candidate had printed pictures of Ziaur Rehman, a government servant and a younger brother of the party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Mr Jan had summoned Mr Nizami to appear before him on Saturday (today). Mr Nisami’s counsel presented a written reply and arguments in favour of his client, but they could not satisfy the DMO, according to an order issued by Mr Jan, who is also the district election commissioner.

The DMO order further states that by printing pictures of Ziaur Rehman on publicity material and also inviting him to participate and address political gatherings, the candidate had committed violations of section 25 of the code of conduct and directions contained in para-2 (IV) of the notification issued on January 3, 2022.

The DMO has also warned Mr Nizami that if he again violated the ECP’s directions, his case will be referred to the Election Commission of Pakistan for further proceedings and necessary action against him.
