Services of 30,000 teachers of Punjab regularised

TAXILA: Services of 30,000 contract-based teachers employed in primary, middle and high schools across Punjab have been regularised.

This was stated by District Coordination Committee Chairman retired Maj Tahir Sadiq while speaking at a ceremony held to present regularisation of service letters to 122 teachers in Attockon Tuesday.

District Education Authority Chief Executive Malik Mohsin Abbas and other officials as well as office-bearers of the Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) Attock chapter were also present on the occasion.

Mr Sadiq said students’ character-building was the main objective of educational institutions, adding that the basic responsibility of teachers was to tap into students’ potential and talent for the national cause.

Teachers are considered to be role models for students and it is their prime responsibility to set a precedent so others can follow it too, he said, adding that, “surely, we have a number of teachers who could become role models for others so teachers have to focus in this direction devotedly to polish the youth and make them the pride of the nation”.

He urged teachers whose services had been regularised to do their best to lead the youth in the right direction with a positive approach for productive results. Apart from this, he said teachers working in far-flung areas should be recognised by both the government and citizens.

“I hope that teachers will continue to play their role with even more zeal and commitment. I wish them all a prosperous future,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Abbas said a nation could not prosper without teachers’ contributions.

Meanwhile, Marhaba Nemat, who previously served as the assistant commissioner of Toba Tek Singh, has been appointed the assistant commissioner of Taxila whereas Khurram Shahzad has been made the assistant commissioner of Fatehjang.
