Govt working for protection of child rights: Saif

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif said on Tuesday that the provincial government was working for the rights of the children and implementation of relevant legislations.

Barrister Saif was addressing a function regarding child rights-related legislation at the Peshawar Press Club. MPA Ayesha Bano and National Council for the Rights of the Child (NCRC) chairperson Afshan Tehseen were also present on the occasion.

He said that significant work on the legislation had been done both at the federal and provincial levels. He said that implementation of all these laws was the need of the hour and in this regard the provincial government was working for ensuring coordination among its various agencies.

Barrister Saif said that the Zainab Alert Act had also been passed, which led to raising awareness in the society of the child rights. He said that many of children were bread earners of their families and working with their parents’ consent, which was a great hurdle in abolishing the child labour.

Ayesha Bano said that the provincial assembly had enacted several child-related legislations. She said they were also starting Zamung Kor for women as well.

The NCRC chairperson said the commission had resolved 150 cases in two years of its existence.
