OICCI to hold climate moot next month

KARACHI: The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) will organise the Pakistan Climate Conference 2022 next month to build on the lessons from the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference or COP26.

The conference, which will take place on March 16, will identify and implement the measures that’ll reduce the climate impact in Pakistan, said OICCI President Ghias Khan while addressing a press conference on Tuesday.

Mr Khan, who also serves as CEO of Engro Corporation Ltd, said the conference will bring together global climate experts, policymakers and corporate decision-makers to help Pakistan develop necessary policy and climate interventions.

Speaking on the occasion, OICCI Vice President and Unilever Pakistan CEO Amir Paracha said Pakistan has “much to do” to meet its ambitious Nationally Determined Contribution, which aims to cut the projected emissions by 50 per cent and achieve 60pc renewable energy by 2030.

“All of this requires urgent and concrete policy action within the country over the remainder of this decade,” he said.
