SUKKUR: Demonstration by nurses against police excesses

SUKKUR, Nov 28: Over 50 nurses of the civil hospital in Sukkur staged a protest demonstration in front of the hospital and the DIG office on Monday following maltreatment of police with nurses of the Khairpur civil hospital on Sunday.

The protesting nurses were led by the president of the nursing staff, Dr Irshad Pathan, and general secretary Muneera Begum.

After holding the protest at the civil hospital, the nurses reached the DIG office and observed a sit-in for about an hour.

They were chanting slogans against the police and other officials for baton charging the nurses.

The nurses demanded immediate suspension of the B section police station SHO and other personnel of the Khairpur police.

They appealed to the Sindh chief minister, governor, Sindh IGP and Sukkur RPO to take action against police officials responsible for maltreating nurses.

NAWABSHAH: Nursing staff of the People’s Medical College Hospital, Nawabshah, staged a protest demonstration on Monday against the Khairpur police for their action against nurses.

Led by Mebel Sharif, the president of the Pakistan Nursing Federation of the Nawabshah chapter, Fatima Noonari and Amna Unnar, the protest continued for an hour.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said that police had no authority to baton charge nurses.

The also said that police should not pelt stones upon them as it was their right to protest.

They demanded suspension of the police officials involved in the incident and warned to continue the protest if their demands were not accepted.
