Cartoon Network renews Teen Titans Go! series

Cartoon Networkhas renewed the animated Teen Titans Go! series for Season 8.

The series follows Beast Boy, Robin, Cyborg, Raven and Starfire as they save the world and navigate life as teenagers. The voice cast includes Tara Strong, Scott Menville, Greg Cipes, Khary Payton and Hyden Walch.

“The undeniable success of Teen Titans Go!, with its signature blend of action and subversive Super Hero humour, is a testament to the phenomenal work of executive producer Pete Michail and the show team,” a Warner Bros. statement said.

The film Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse will premiere on May 24, first on digital, Blu-Ray and DVD, then premiere on May 28 on Cartoon Network and on HBO Max on June 28.

Encanto turned into a franchise

Encanto is Disney’s latest franchise. Speaking to Bloomberg after Disney’s latest earnings report, CEO Bob Chapek said the film “has proved to the world that we can build a Disney franchise on the back of Disney+.”

Encanto received a month-long theatrical window after opening on November 24, departing from the day-and-date and straight-to-streaming releases that Disney’s other animated tent poles were given in the pandemic.

After launching on Disney+ on Christmas Eve, it became the fastest title on the platform to hit 200 million hours of viewing time. The film earned a Golden Globe and other honours, including three Oscar nominations.

New Smurfs movies and musical in the works

The Smurfs are multiplying! The blue critters will star in new movies produced at Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation.

The two partnered with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, the world license holders for The Smurfs, to produce multiple movies based on the franchise. The first project will be a cg-animated musical feature, set to start production this year and slated for release on December 20, 2024.

The Smurfs made their debut in a comic by Belgian artist Peyo in 1958 and have since appeared in five films. The last three were released by Sony — two hybrid, one fully animated — and together grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide. The Smurfs have also starred in three animated series, and the studio is working on a second 26-episode season.
