Experts call for early treatment of children’s bone deformity

LOWER DIR: Medical experts at a function held at the District Headquarters Hospital, Timergara, here on Saturday said parents should be made aware of the fact that children suffering deformity in bones, joints and muscular issues could easily be treated.

District orthopaedic surgeon Dr Wiqar Alam arranged the day-long workshop for health professionals to highlight orthopaedic issues in children.

Associate professor Dr Sikandar Hayat of the Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, Dr Wiqar Alam, Dr Salik Kashif of the Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, Dr Yaqubur Rehman of the Nowshera Medical College, Prof Salman of the Leady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, Prof Saqib Khan of the Gajoo Khan Medical College, Swabi, pediatric orthopaedic surgeon Dr Islam Hussain and others spoke on the occasion.

They said some diseases pertaining to orthopaedic condition affected the musculoskeletal system of the body, affecting muscles, bones, nerves and tendons.

The experts said common orthopaedic problems in children could be congenital, developmental or acquired.

They were of the view that most orthopaedic problems in children could be resolved in their childhood.

They asked parents to get their children suffering orthopaedic issues treated by experts in the field. They said medical care in such cases was beneficial for children up to 13 years of age.

They said it was difficult to treat deformed bones and joints in adulthood. The experts said grown-up patients needed surgeries that affected the patients physically.

PPP’s former MPA Mohammad Zamin, tehsil chairman candidate Mazhar Hussain, and others spoke on the occasion.

The speakers claimed the PPP had become the most popular party in Dir and it would win most of the seats in the upcoming local body elections. They said the ruling PTI had disappointed the masses.
