HARIPUR, Jan 26: District Nazim, Dr Raja Amer Zaman has assured that no local tax would be levied on the private institutions  imparting computer and information  technology education in Haripur.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a computer laboratory in the Sarhad College of Commerce here on Saturday, Raja Amer said although the limited resources were compelling the district government to impose new taxes on certain commercial activities to generate finances for development projects, the computer and IT institutions being run by the private sector would be exempted from any financial charge.

He said in order to prepare the new generation to face the challenges ahead and secure a bright future for them, the government was taking concrete steps for promoting IT and computer literacy at every level.

He  called upon students particularly women, not  to  get discouraged by any kind of conservatism prevailing in the society and continue to equip themselves with the power of knowledge to meet the future challenges in the fields of modern education and technology.

METERS: As many as 4,800 power meters of single and three phase categories, removed by Pesco for testing in  the Hazara division during the last one year, were found tempered with at Pesco’s laboratory here, sources said.

The Pesco staff, following directives from high officials to check power theft in the division, launched a crackdown against power thieves and removed 10,000 energy meters for testing at the M&T laboratory.

Of these, 4,500 single-phase, 400 three-phase and  some commercial meters were found tempered with or their seals broken, while some were detected to be running slow.
