Farogh calls for legal reforms to provide speedy justice

KARACHI: Federal Law Minister Senator Farogh Naseem on Sunday stressed the need of introducing reforms in the legal system to provide speedy justice to the people.

Speaking at the launch of a book, Selected Judgements, authored by Qazi Khalid Ali, the chairman of the Federal Service Tribunal (FST), he said the world had adopted a pattern to record evidence electronically.

The book consists of 260 judgements of the FST chairman that had been decided at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi benches.

According to a handout, the law minister underscored the need for revising jurisdiction of subordinate and superior judiciary to provide speedy justice.

He said the lawyers resisted law reforms. He further said that bar associations were invited for their inputs pertaining to amendments to certain laws but they termed those “exploitation” and rejected.

The law minister said that it had to be decided by the people of Pakistan either to make reforms to laws or not.

He said that the wives and children of judges in other countries had to follow a code of conduct, but in Pakistan things were different.

The minister said that judges were removed in other countries over wrong perception.

“We have to contemplate on how to steer the country in the right direction. We have to empower the country,” he said.

He said that the amendment in the inheritance law resulted in the availability of the letter of administration and letter of succession within 15 days.

Speaking on the occasion, former Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali also highlighted the importance of speedy justice. He said that the judiciary had the responsibility to provide justice without delay and every effort had to be made to provide relief to public.
