Murder suspect dies in police custody
KASUR: A schoolteacher, suspected to be the killer of his colleague, died in police custody, here on Wednesday in Raja Jang police precincts.
Some days back, police recovered the body of a man identified as Muhammad Imtiaz [a local schoolteacher] of Havali Ajaib Singh. A team arrested Imtiaz’s colleague Shahid Iqbal after getting his cell phone record.
On Wednesday, Iqbal died after he was rushed to two health facilities in a critical condition.
The family of the deceased has accused the police of torturing him to death. On the other hand, police rejected the allegation and claimed that he died of a cardiac arrest.
District Police Officer Sohaib Ashraf has formed a three-member inquiry team, headed by the SP investigation, which would submit its findings in a couple of days.
REVENUE CENTRES: The assistant commissioner on Wednesday inaugurated six rural revenue centres in remote villages near Pakistan-India border.
AC Aurangzaib Sindhu inaugurated centres at Burj Kalan, Mahlam Kalan, Hussain Khanwala, Chanda Singwala, Sandha and Ganda Singhwala.
Later talking to the media, the assistant commissioner said villagers had been facing hardships in getting ‘fard’ and other record from the revenue offices in the district headquarter. He said the Punjab government took the step in the larger interest of the public. He said corrupt elements and touts would be dealt with an iron hand.
