SHC issues notice to attorney general

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday put the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) on notice after the Sindh advocate general informed it he was intending to question the vires of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) Act, 2020.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro adjourned the matter for Thursday (today).

The larger bench took up the petition of the PMC against a decision of the Sindh cabinet through which it lowered the passing marks for the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test-2021 (MDCAT) from 65 per cent to 50pc.

The petitioner’s counsel while concluding his arguments said that the provincial government had no mandate to allow students who failed the MDCAT to be eligible for admission.
