TOBA TEK SINGH: Faisalabad Commissioner Zahid Hussain has taken notice of the continuous incidents of mismanagement at the women Ehsaas Kafalat centres in the division.

Addressing a meeting in Faisalabad on Thursday, he said one more centre for providing financial assistance to women would open in the district soon while the number of counters for registration and disbursement at existing centres was also being increased.

Mr Hussain asked the deputy commissioners of all districts to ensure the provision of shade for women at the centres with seats, fans and drinking water. He urged the police to deploy policewomen at the centres and asked them to use Civil Defence volunteers in this regard. He said the high-ups should also be contacted for additional workforce.

The commissioner directed the representatives to immediately increase the number of the counters so that women could be accommodated quickly and the rush could be managed.

He said five additional counters would be set up in the centre set up in the metropolitan corporation from March 18 while the number of machines in the centre of Al-Fatah Sports Complex should also be increased.

Faisalabad DC Ali Shahzad, CPO Ghulam Mubashar Maikan, MPA Firdous Rai and others were present.

ENCOUNTER: Two robbers were injured seriously in an alleged encounter in Jhang.

The district police spokesperson claimed Mochiwala police stopped a suspected car, carrying four riders, at a nullah.

The suspects opened fire at the policemen which was retaliated. When the firing stopped, the police found two of the car riders injured in the car; however, their accomplices managed to escape. Both of the injured were shifted to DHQ hospital. They were identified as Noor Muhammad and Kaleemullah of Chak 167-JB.

The spokesperson added that both the suspects were hit by the bullets fired by their own accomplices. He said they were wanted by police of different districts in 39 robberies. Police impounded the car.

Meanwhile, a young woman committed suicide in Ghulam Muhammad Abad locality of Faisalabad.

Iqra Bibi (25) had a dispute with her husband Hasan Raza, and in-laws. After a quarrel on Thursday, she hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her room.

UAF: University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan says rapid growth in any field in the modern era could not be imagined without statistical data.

He was addressing the inaugural session of the International Conference on Statistical Sciences, organised by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the UAF.

Mr Khan said scientific research could be completed without obtaining, planning, analysing and drawing conclusions from the statistics. He said that the UAF was taking all possible steps to ensure quality education on a par with international standards and produce skilled manpower by honing the abilities of students.

National College of Business Administration and Economics Pro-Rector Dr Muhammad Hanif Mian said the role of statistics was important in all sciences.

He said that without statistics, the annual financial budgets and planning process of different countries around the world could not be completed.

Faculty of Sciences Dean Dr Muhammad Asghar Bajwa and Dr Zafar Iqbal, the head of Department of Statistics and Mathematics, UAF, Dr Imran, Dr Muhammad Kashif and others also spoke.
