Inquiry initiated to probe mysterious death of female constable

ISLAMABAD: An inquiry committee was constituted to probe the sudden death of a female constable of the capital police who died under unexplained circumstances on Friday.

A spokesman for the police said she was stationed at Police Lines Headquarters and left for a bank from the headquarters around 11am.

Later, she reached the house of a superintendent of police where she vomited blood, the spokesman said, adding that she was brought to hospital by staff of the SP in a deteriorated condition where she died.

Over suspicion, a committee comprising deputy inspector general of police operations, senior superintendent of police (investigation), assistant inspector general of police (operations) and sub-divisional police officer (Sihala) to probe the incident and establish the facts.

Senior police officers told Dawn on condition of anonymity that staff of the SP brought her to the hospital from his house.

After some time, staff of the officer reached the hospital and took the body to a seminary, where last rites over the body were performed, they said, adding that the death of the constable was kept a secret until police got to know about it from the hospital.

The house of the SP was also found washed which created doubts and suspicions, they said. After autopsy, the body was handed over to the deceased’s father, police said.

The final autopsy report is awaited, they said, adding that preliminary report of the autopsy suggests that the cause of death is poisoning.

In response, a case was registered on the charge of murder against an unidentified person, they said.
