Opinion: No one is perfect

No one is perfect and cannot be. If you are good at maths, it’s not necessary that you are good in every subject. Similarly, if you are a good writer, you may not have sporting abilities. You are often doing multitasking, but every task does not end up with perfection. What is important at this moment is not to feel down.

Most of the time, we hear people around us saying about another person, “Look at her/him! How impressively he/she delivers a speech!”

You must also appreciate them, but don’t let yourself feel down while listening to praises for others, think about your own qualities, which either you have not discovered yet or you might be doing well without giving it much thought.

Often, we observe that our parents compare their children, praising one child while making the others feel left out or dejected. Sometimes, one sibling is securing high grades and the other is an average student. This is also a normal occurrence since every person is different from others. But if others start to point out this, comparing their performances openly, this will make one child feel superior and proud at the expense of the other child’s confidence, which will take a blow. It can even lead to sibling rivalry.

But in such situations, the person who isn’t doing well should not take it to heart. They must realise that not everyone can excel at the same things. There must be some things that they too can be very good at, and being the best should not be the ultimate goal of a person. What is important is to be a good person, rather than the best student or sportsperson.

Always consider every individual as different and try to bring up your hidden talent. One may be active, the other may be a bit slow but he may be active in something else. Life is not a competition, it is a journey that needs to be undertaken to the best of one’s abilities and enjoyed.

I would like to tell everyone, especially the teens, to evaluate your own personality and see what you are at good at, and don’t underestimate yourself. Move forward with your ideas and you will be recognised for your talent soon.

What beautiful words someone has said: “Don’t find good people and ignore bad ones, find the good in people and ignore the bad in them.”
