SHC Sukkur bench admits petition against PECA

SUKKUR: The Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court has admitted a petition challenging the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and issued notices to president of Pakistan, federal ministries of law and information among others, directing them to appear in court on April 27.

The double bench comprising Justices Mohammad Junaid Ghafar and Zulfiqar Ali Sangi heard the petition filed by Sukkur Union of Journalists through their counsel the other day.

The journalists’ counsel Khan Abdul Ghafar Khan contended that the PECA ordinance was not only against fundamental human rights it was also against freedom of expression, hence he appealed to consider the petition and accept it as maintainable.
