10 ‘Lyari gangsters’ held, arms seized
KARACHI: Police and Rangers on Wednesday claimed to have arrested about a dozen suspects associated with one of the various gangs operating in Lyari.
The Keamari police and paramilitary force conducted joint raids in old city areas and picked up 10 suspects, allegedly linked with Arshad Pappu gang.
DIG-South Sharjeel Kharal said most of the held suspects were relatives of Arshad Pappu who was kidnapped and killed in 2013.
He said they were arrested from a ‘den’ in Jehanabad, which was allegedly being run by Pappu’s nephews, Shakir alias Shaka and Bilal.
Four grenades, two rifles, three pistols, 280-gram crystal meth and over six-kg hashish were recovered from their custody.
Cases have been registered against them and their past criminal record was being checked, the police said.
Meanwhile, the city police on Wednesday released the data of crimes during the last three months.
It said total 26 suspected robbers were killed and 262 others wounded in 228 ‘encounters’.
The police claimed to have arrested total 2,126 suspects during the three-month period.
