Pak-Iran freight service resumes after 24 hours
NUSHKI: Freight train service between Pakistan and Iran resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended for almost 24 hours due to the derailment of a goods train engine near Nushki on Friday evening.
Railway officials told Dawn that the train was carrying sulfur from the Iranian city, Zahedan, and was on its way to Quetta when it met an accident. However, no loss of life was reported.
The derailment occurred due to dilapidated condition of railway track that also caused several similar incidents in the past, the sources said, adding that the routine operation resumed after railway workers managed to put the locomotive back on track.
Such incidents often take place on the Taftan-Spezind railway section in many areas of Nushki and Chagai districts. The railway operations sometimes remain suspended for several days due to harsh weather conditions and far-flung areas where more resources and time were needed for any kind of rescue and rehabilitation work.
