Khyber tribesmen protest prolonged power outages
KHYBER: Scores of tribesmen demonstrated in Landi Kotal on Friday against prolonged electricity loadshedding.
The protesters gathered at the local grid station and chanted slogans against the staff for subjecting them to excessive loadshedding and low voltage.
They alleged that contrary to government’s announcement, loadshedding was being carried out during Iftar and Sehr.
They said most of the localities in Landi Kotal, including mosques, were facing water shortage. They demanded of the grid station staff to ensure at least eight hours of power supply during the fasting month.
Meanwhile, district administration officials visited the Landi Kotal Bazaar and checked prices of daily use items.
They advised the shopkeepers to properly display official price list at their shops and refrain from fleecing customers.
Officials also advised the customers to register their complaints with the administration if traders violated the price list.
Also in the day, a fire burnt down a tent school for boys in Bara.
The incident took place in Babu Jan Kallay locality of Mandi Kas during Friday prayers.
Local residents alleged that unidentified persons set three tents of the school on fire, turning them into ashes in no time.
They said no suspect could be spotted as most villagers were inside mosques for Friday prayers.
The police started investigation into the incident upon complaint of residents.
