TOBA TEK SINGH: The widow of a man who was killed in an alleged fake encounter in Jhang says the police are harassing her for moving the court, seeking registration of a murder case against the policemen, including a sub-inspector, involved in the incident.

Zeba Bibi told the reporters on Sunday that in her petition before the Jhang magistrate Kamran Khalid she said Satellite police sub-inspector Amanullah Qamar along with other policemen arrested her husband, Ghulam Jaffar, when he was taking a bath at his tube well at village Bela Bangash. She alleged that her rivals also accompanied the police. Later, her husband was shot dead in the fake encounter, she alleged and added that to restrain her from pursuing the petition, the police were raiding her house continuously to harass her.

Sub-Inspector Amanullah Qamar termed the allegations against him baseless. He added a judicial inquiry into the incident was in progress and he would record his statement before the inquiry officer.

WHEAT: About 1,900 metric tonne wheat has been recovered from alleged smugglers who were trying to transport it to other districts during the last few days from Faisalabad in violation of the ban. Seven cases have been registered against the smugglers.

During a wheat procurement campaign meeting, Faisalabad Commissioner Zahid Hussain said 216 raids were carried out across the division to check the illegal movement and hoarding of the wheat.

Food department deputy director Shahid Khokhar informed the meeting that 40 procurement centres had been set up to purchase 535,510 metric tonnes of wheat and teams were also working to stop smuggling of the commodity at 13 interchanges of both M-3 and M-4 and 70 other points at highways.

Additional Commissioner Coordination Tariq Mahmood, ACs Umar Maqbool and Sahibzada Muhammad Yousaf, Agriculture Director Abdul Hameed, Deputy Director Khalid Mehmood and police officers were also present.

SECURITY: The district police made extraordinary arrangements for the security of Christian community that observed Easter at 90 churches of the district on Sunday.

A police official said 427 policemen and 300 Razakars and private volunteers were deputed in and around the churches.

POISONED: A man was allegedly poisoned to death by his wife at Kamalia on Sunday.

According to Kamalia City police, Asif Jehangir Mughal (35), a resident of Bhaghaiwala locality of the city, was rushed to Kamalia Tehsil Headquarters Hospital early in the morning where the doctors referred him to the DHQ hospital. He later expired at the hospital. The family of the deceased alleged that Nahid Bibi, the wife of the deceased, had administered him poison. Police arrested the suspect.

DROWNS: A minor boy drowned in a canal near Adda Chak 77-GB on Satiana Road, Faisalabad.

Rescue 1122 report said Sabir Ali (8), the son of a farmer Talib Hussain, was giving bath to his buffaloes when he slipped into the canal and drowned. His body was found after hectic efforts of two hours by the rescuers.
