Banana date almond smoothie

Hello everyone! How is Ramazan going? Yeah, especially for those who are fasting and going to school too.

Your fasts can sail smoothly if you take care to eat and drink the right kind of foods when the fast is over. Yes, I know, all those fried and spicy snacks that grace our table in Ramazan are hard to resist. And it is very easy to go overboard and later on start feeling very heavy and lethargic.

Now this isn’t good for your digestion nor your energy level. After all, you have been fasting all day and suddenly loading your tummy with oily and high-calorie things will only confuse and trouble your insides.

I am sure many of you also enjoy lots of refreshing sherbats and lassi, which is good to keep you hydrated.

Today I am sharing a very easy drink that you can have at Iftar or Sehri, which will give you lots of the right kind of nutritious while tasting divine and being light on your system.

It’s a banana, date and almond smoothie, with a touch of the red sherbet that we enjoy so much in Ramazan and milk. You can make it with yoghurt and add other things, such as honey in place of the sherbet, any other fruit such as watermelon. I would rather you do not get tempted to experiment with ice cream or chocolate syrup now, which can always be added as a topping, since we want to keep things light and simple in Ramazan.

I like to share recipes that you can make independently to a large extent, and this too is very easy for you to try on your own. And your mum would really enjoy you helping her as she has so many other things to tend to.

So let’s see how you can make this easy banana, date and almond smoothie!

Ingredients

• 2 bananas
• 3 dates
• 5-7 almonds, semi-boiled, skinned
• 2 tablespoons red sherbet
• 250ml milk

Method

Cook almonds in boiling water for five minutes. Drain and remove the skin. Keep aside.

Deseed the dates, peel the bananas. Now put all these ingredients in a blender/food processor jug and blend until smooth. I have skipped sugar since dates, banana and the red sherbet are pretty sweet, so there is no need for any extra calories.

Pour in a glass, add ice cubes and enjoy at Iftar or at Sehri, to give a shot of energy to last through the long, hot day. You can also add ice cubes while blending to crush the ice, if that’s how you like it.

This recipe makes two medium-sized glasses.
