Murad promises more funds for JPMC to double its capacity

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday decided to increase the number of beds and double the size of the annual budget of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) from the next financial year.

He took this decision while meeting with the executive director of the hospital, Prof Dr Shahid Rasool, here at CM House.

The executive director briefed the chief minister about the problems the health facility had been facing since long.

He said that the JPMC was a 2,208-bedded facility and there was a need to increase its capacity.

The CM directed the executive director to improve the hospital’s capacity and promised that the Sindh his government would provide required funds to the hospital in the next financial year.

The financial health of the hospital was also come under discussion and the chief minister decided to double the budget of the JPMC.

He told the executive director that his government would also increase the medicine budget of the hospital.

Security, sanitation services to be outsourced

The chief minister directed the JPMC head to outsource the security and sanitation services of the hospital.

Talking about the robotic surgery system installed at the JPMC, Mr Shah asked the executive director to further strengthen it.

He said the robotic surgery facility should be extended to district headquarters hospitals across the province through its satellite centres.

At the request of the JPMC executive director, the chief minister increased the number of doctors on house job in the health facility by another 100 seats.

Mr Shah instructed the JPMC administration to hold the meetings of its departmental promotion committee (DPC) for all the cadres and promote eligible candidates.

He also approved the hiring of more teachers — assistant, associate and full professors — to meet the requirement of the faculty at the Jinnah Sindh Medical University, the attached teaching institute of the JPMC.
