Trailer for upcoming film Rehbra launched

KARACHI: The trailer for an upcoming film Rehbra directed by Amin Iqbal and produced by Saira Afzal was launched at Atrium Cinemas on Wednesday evening.

Ahsan Khan and Ayesha Omer are playing the male and female protagonists in the movie, alongside seasoned actor Ghulam Mohiuddin and Sameer Sohail.

Khan arrived at the venue after 9.30pm; the guests were requested to come at 9pm. He was his usual chirpy self, interacting with journalists some of whom he seems to know by name — one of them after the launch, in fact, spoke into the microphone and instead of asking a question claimed that Khan was best suited for the silver screen. The actor thanked him, as he should have.

Speaking to the media, Khan said there exist only a few stories, especially in the subcontinent, it’s how you execute a story and how you take it forward that makes a difference. A romantic film is a romantic film, but how you develop it needs to be taken into account.

Director Amin Iqbal says movie will be released on June 24

“One thing is for sure, you wouldn’t have seen the style of romance shown in Rehbra. The way the story unfolds is not typical. I saw the film while dubbing for it with more attention because due to the pandemic this film was put on hold, and the producer Saira, who is from the US, was very worried. But once you watch the film you will know that experienced people have made it. I have a lot of hopes… [Also] this film has great music,” he said.

Earlier, Amin Iqbal, the director of the film, told Dawn: “June 24 is the release date for our movie. As far as the story is concerned, it’s a rom-com with action. We have tried to touch upon the subject that people today are talking about in society. The subject is: unless we recognise ourselves (apney aap ko pechanein ge nahin) we can’t move ahead. Self-realisation should be there but in a lighter vein. How can we move forward as a society, and if a certain section of society is not able to do that, what’s the reason for it. The villain in our film, played by Sohail Sameer, lives in an area where there are no basic amenities of life.”

On the question of picking the actors for major roles, the director said, “We thought only Ayesha Omer could play the female lead character of Bubbly. And Ahsan and I are friends. He’s fit to play the part of a Karachiite.”
