Crackdown against aerial firing, wheelie

LAHORE: The Punjab police registered 3,055 cases against the people resorting to aerial firing, doing wheelie and displaying weapons in a province-wide crackdown.

A police spokesperson quoting from a report released on Monday says so far 2,883 people have been arrested by police.

He says of total cases, 1,420 were registered against those involved in aerial firing, arresting 1,939 suspects.

Similarly, he says 859 cases were registered against those doing wheelie, while 9,44 suspects were arrested.

He says 776 cases were registered for display of arms and several of these cases have been sent to the concerned agencies for revocation of licences.

He says Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rao Sardar Ali Khan has issued directions to the regional and district police officers and other field officers to further intensify the crackdown to prevent aerial firing, display of weapons and wheelie.

The IGP ordered constitution of special teams for security on chand raat (Eid eve) in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan. He said those resorting to these dangerous sports did not deserve any leniency.

He asked the citizens to report on police helpline 15 about incidents of aerial firing, display of weapons and wheelie for action against the violators.
