Website review: Periodic tables easy guide

It’s that time of the year again, when all the fun and joy disappear for a while. This is because you hear your parents and teachers asking you to be serious with your studies as the exams are about to start.

Oh yes, the atmosphere is getting intense and most of you will be experiencing tension and fear with every passing day, even if you are cent percent prepared for the exams.

Therefore, today I just thought for sharing a website which is a last minute rescue for grownup kids studying the elements, https://ed.ted.com/periodic-videos — a site with lessons about every single element on the periodic table.

Reading plain text always needs extra attention from anyone and if the text is associated with academics, then you need extra mental focus to understand it. Reading and remembering the elements need a lot of time and focus. But the site under review makes your job easy by showing you short videos of the elements in the periodic table.

The site is clean without any advertisement. So there is nothing more than just a full-page showing you neatly arranged periodic table. Choose any element to view a short video (most are less than 10 minutes) demonstrating the properties and providing background information on the element offered by scientists from various famous universities. Each video also provides a link to a complete TED-ED lesson, including questions for discussion and further exploration — created by the Periodic Videos team using the TED-Ed platform.

You can explore an element’s category specifically by going through the categories mentioned below the periodic table, like “Alkaline Metals”, “Alkaline Earth Metals”, “Transition Metals”, “Other Metals”, “Rare Earth Metals”, “Noble gases”, “Halogens” and “Non-Metals”. When you select a category, you will notice the elements in the table above to be highlighted.

For those of you who don’t know what TED is, let me brief that TED stands for (Technology, Entertainment and Design). TED is a non-profit organisation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. TED-Talks are influential videos from expert speakers on education, business, science, tech and creativity; while TED-Ed is a youth and education initiative to spark and celebrate the ideas of teachers and students around the world, and this website is one of the initiatives.

So stop wasting any more time, and learn about the properties of elements at https://ed.ted.com/ periodic-videos
