Six of family killed in van, car collision

VEHARI: Six members of a family were killed and five other people injured in a head-on collision between a van and a car on Vehari-Multan Road near Tibba Sultanpur, about 50 kilometres away from the city, on Friday.

Reports said a Multan-bound passenger van collided with a car coming from the opposite direction near Tibba Sultanpur due to speeding. Six members of a family in the car died on the spot.

They were Abdul Hameed, 60, Sajjad, 33, his wife Sanam Naz, 26, their daughters – Mishal, 7, and Eshal, 1 – and Minahil, 10.

Lubna Naseem, 16, Arvesh Sajjad, 3, and Arsalan Naseem, 5, besides two van passengers Faisal Nadeem, 17, a resident of Multan, and Abdul Rehman, 45, a resident of Muzaffargarh, were injured.

Deputy Commissioner Khizar Afzaal visited the accident site and monitored the rescue operation.

Rescue 1122 spokesman Azeem Jutt said the injured were admitted to the Tibba Sultanpur rural health centre.

Police said the accident occurred owing to high speed of both vehicles. He said the bodies of six members of the family were handed over to their relatives after autopsy at the rural health centre (RHC).

They said the family belonged to Basti Malook area of Multan. Police registered a case against the van driver who fled after the accident.
