DIRTY POLITICS
DIRTY POLITICS: This is with reference to the report ‘Pakistani pilgrims arrested for sloganeering at Masjid-i-Nabwi: Saudi embassy’ (April 29). I am just wondering who is keeping the momentum towards agitation going even when it involves the country’s image and the desecration of holy sites. Chanting slogans at the mausoleum of the Quaid in Karachi had upset people to the extent that an apology was demanded and an arrest was made. Ironically, the same set of people now find nothing wrong in the Madina episode.

NATIONAL TRAGEDY: Had Pakistan been governed strictly under the Articles of the Constitution and had rule of law been respected, voting on the no-confidence motion should have settled the matter within the walls of the National Assembly. Whatever followed and how the constitutional offices were abused only destroyed the fabric of the nation. When members of the bureaucracy look and act like political workers, things can only be termed alarming.

HARD AREAS: The Karampur union council (UC) in Mirpur Sakro Taluka of Thatta district lacks basic education and healthcare facilities. For these two critical purposes, the locals have to go to the neighbouring UC in Ghorabari taluka, which has been declared a ‘hard area’. The higher authorities should look into the matter.

GREEN BUS SERVICE: It has only been a few months since the Green Bus service was launched in Karachi and its efficacy has started to wear off already. The elevators and escalators are out of order at many stations. It creates trouble for the sick, the senior citizens and those with any disability. The authorities concerned should immediately inspect the stations and address all the issues that are being faced by commuters. The service is a breath of fresh air in Karachi’s traffic chaos. It should continue to provide convenience to people.
