Residents protest as gunmen kill youth in Tank

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Gunmen killed a youth and injured his brother in Pirwana village of Tank district on Sunday.

Ikramullah, who was injured in the firing, told the police that he along with his younger brother, Inam, was on way to their village after shopping in Tank Bazaar when unknown armed men signaled them to stop. “When we did not stop, they opened fire on us, killing my brother on the spot and injuring me,” he told the police.

A Rescue 1122 official said they shifted the body and the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tank.

Later, the villagers placed the body on a road and started chanting slogans against the district police officer.

The protesters alleged that since the new DPO took charge, incidents of thefts and robberies had increased in the district.

The protesters demanded of the chief minister and IG police to ensure arrest of the suspects within 24 hours. They also sought transfer of Tank DPO.

Meanwhile, protests were held in different parts of the Dera city against excessive electricity loadshedding.

Residents of Iqbal Town, Nawab, Dinpur, Umer Town, Fatima Town and adjoining areas staged protests against power outages.

The protesters also burnt used tyres and closed the Dera-Multan and Dinpur roads for vehicular traffic. They chanted slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company.

Later, on the assurance of local police, the protesters dispersed.
