Tents installed at Banigala for PTI workers

ISLAMABAD: Scores of tents have been installed at Banigala near the residence of former prime minister Imran Khan for workers and activists of the PTI coming to the capital from different areas.

However, official security cover has not been put in place there, said an officer of the police.

The officer told Dawn that former minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Khan Gandapur had brought over 250 people from KP to Banigala. They reached there in a cavalcade of cars, sports utility vehicles, including single and double cabin pickups and motorcycles, he added.

About 60 tents connected with each other have been installed on Kasuri Road in Banigala where they are staying, the officer said. Besides, 50 toilets have been established for them.

They have brought bedding and clothes along with them which suggested they are to stay there. A group of Insaf Student Federation (ISF) also reached Banigala.

Workers of PTI and ISF have mounted surveillance and put security in place in and around the area, the officer said. So far, no direction has been received to deploy police there.

Meals are being arranged for them from a catering service at G-9. Moreover, 200 to 250 ISF activists also reached KP House, said the police officer. The number of PTI workers and activists arriving in the capital is increasing gradually and they are moving to Banigala, the officer added.
