Acid attack victim dies in hospital
MUZAFFARGARH: A woman who was burnt along with her minor son in an acid attack near Tibba Karbla area of Kot Addu about three weeks back succumbed to her burns at the Nishtar Hospital Multan on Thursday.
Nasreen Bibi, the wife of Abdul Rasheed Bhatti, along with her 12-year-old son, Jahanzeb, was asleep at her parents’ home on May when three suspects, Rana Asad Hayat, Sikandar Hayat and Rana Muhammad Asif, threw acid on their faces at midnight.
The first information report was registered on complaint of Nasreen’s mother, Naseem. She said her daughter was attacked because she had rejected the indecent advances of Asad Hayat, one of the suspects. After the incident, the suspects fled from the spot.
The Kot Addu police had registered the case under sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act and the PPC while the victims were shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan for treatment. Nasreen died on Thursday while the condition of her son was out of danger.
On Thursday, Nasreen’s family members alleged that police had released the suspects who were arrested in the case. They alleged that they were being pressurised by police to not to pursue the case.
However, SP Investigation Ziaullah Khan rejected the allegations of the family, saying all the three suspects were in custody and they were on judicial remand. He added that murder sections of the PPC have been added to the FIR after the death of Nasreen.
TEACHER ARRESTED: A teacher of a private school was arrested in Shujaabad, Multan district, for beating a class six student on Thursday.
According to a first information report, Muhammad Umair, who is a teacher at the Muslim Grammar School, Gardezpur, in Shujaabad, thrashed student Muhammad Jahanzaib, 11, mercilessly and later threw him outside under the scorching sun.
The minor student soon passed out. The footage of the incident went viral on social media.
Commissioner Muhammad Amir Khattak took notice of the incident and ordered the police to register a case against the teacher and also made a special team to look into the incident.
He directed the medical superintendent of the Shujaabad THQ Hospital for better treatment.
The police registered a case under sections 506 and 328-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
