18th Amendment must be left intact, Pildat session told

QUETTA: An interactive session held on evolution of federalism in Pakistan and Australia on Friday was told that calls for revisiting the 18th Amendment should be discouraged.

The session was organised by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (Pildat) with the support of the Australian High Commission’s Direct Aid Programme. Members of the 17th Youth Parliament Pakistan engaged in the interactive virtual session.

Pildat president Ahmed Bilal Mehboob presented key takeaways from the background paper written by former federal finance minister Sartaj Aziz.

Mr Mehboob said Mr Aziz believes that calls for revisiting the 18th Amendment should be discouraged. Instead, he pointed out, capacity of provincial governments need to be enhanced to deal with the devolved subjects of education and health.
