Work begins on Rs1.3bn road project

KARACHI: City Administrator Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of Shahrah-i-Noor Jahan with an estimated cost of Rs1.3 billion.

“The two-lane 4.28km road will be constructed from Abdullah Girls College to Qalandaria Chowk,” he said.

He said that service roads would also be constructed along main road while a drainage system, sewerage and street lights would also be installed.

The administrator said that the Solid Waste Management Board had started its work for cleaning the areas in district Central. “The garbage problem has been resolved in the Nazimabad zone, and in the next two months the problem of cleanliness will be resolved in other areas [of district Central] too,” he added.

He said that 28 parks, which had been deserted for years and turned into rubbish bins, had been renovated and opened to the public.

He said that 17 roads were being constructed in the SITE area and a flyover and an underpass would be constructed at Jauhar Chowrangi in district East to solve the traffic problems.

Barrister Wahab said that the Karachi Medical and Dental College would be upgraded into a university. “A bill to make the university will be passed by the PPP government in the provincial assembly and it will be given the status of Karachi Metropolitan University,” he added.
