Pakistan announce squad for Commonwealth Games
KARACHI: Pakistan have retained the 18-member squad — that beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20 series — for the Ireland tri-nation tournament and the Commonwealth Games, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced Tuesday.
The tri-nation series will be played from July 16 to 24 in Belfast before the Bismah Maroof-led side takes on Barbados, India and Australia in the Games from July 29 to August 3, in Birmingham, England.
The PCB confirmed Bismah and her family will be accommodated at the Games village so she can be with her infant daughter during the event.
The Commonwealth Games Federation drew flak after media reports said Maroof’s daughter had been denied accreditation, which would require the Pakistan batter to stay outside the Games village during the tournament. The PCB said such a situation has been averted. The board’s parental policy allows Maroof to travel with her daughter and her mother as the caregiver. She had her family with her during this year’s World Cup in New Zealand.
Ahead of their departure to the United Kingdom on July 12, Pakistan will undergo an extensive training session in Islamabad at House of Northern from July 1-11.
Squad: Bismah Maroof (captain), Aimen Anwar, Aliya Riaz, Anam Amin, Ayesha Naseem, Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, Gull Feroza (wicketkeeper), Iram Javed, Kainat Imtiaz, Muneeba Ali Siddiqui (wicket-keeper), Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadia Iqbal, Tuba Hassan.
Travelling reserves: Ghulam Fatima, Sadaf Shamas, Umme Hani.
