Govt asked to remove double taxation, broaden tax net

RAWALPINDI: The business community has demanded removal of double taxation and anomalies in the budget 2022-23.

Addressing the post-budget session at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), the chamber’s president, Nadeem Rauf, said the government must introduce incentives to broaden the tax net.

The procedure for fair value assessment to collect tax on deemed income from an unused property and deemed rental income is not clear, he said, adding that litigation between landlord and tenant would increase manifold and cautioned that since more powers had been given to inland officers, they might misuse authority.

Mr Rauf said tax slabs in proportion to electricity bill were not realistic.

Former RCCI president Sohail Altaf said no concessions were given to expats who send billions of dollars in remittances every month. At present the country needs dollars, he added.
