NDMA discusses monsoon response with stakeholders
ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz has called upon all the stakeholders to ensure necessary preparedness, including mitigation and response measures at various levels.
He was chairing the third National Monsoon Preparedness Review Conference 2022 held here under the aegis of NDMA on Friday.
The NDMA chief underscored the climate change impacts, vulnerability of Pakistan to various disasters with focus on monsoon and floods and need for preparedness and coordination among all stakeholders.
All the stakeholders shared their monsoon preparedness plans and perspectives with focus on early warning, level of preparedness, public awareness, response capabilities, coordination among various stakeholders, community mobilisation, role of UN agencies, humanitarian organisations and the media.
At the end of the conference, the NDMA chairman urged all the stakeholders to ensure necessary preparedness, including mitigation and response measures at various levels, awareness and advocacy campaigns and timely response in case of an emergency situation.
Stakeholders from federal and provincial governments, PDMAs, GBDMA, SDMA, armed forces, Emergency Response Services, Federal Flood Commission, Wapda, CDA, Suparco, irrigation department, FWO, NHA, Pakistan metrological department, UN agencies and humanitarian networks participated in the conference.
