100 more ‘red buses’ reach city
KARACHI: The final consignment of 100 red-coloured air-conditioned hybrid buses, out of total 240 imported from China as part of the Peoples Intra-District Bus Service, finally arrived here at Karachi Port on Tuesday.
Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon took to social media to announce the arrival of the buses.
“100 buses reached Karachi port right now. Out of 100 buses 90 buses are for Karachi and 10 buses for Larakan,” he tweeted.
In a statement issued later, he said: “Red Buses will be seen running on Route 2 from July 1 while all the seven routes will become functional within two months.”
He vowed to bring “thousands of buses” in Karachi with a period of one to two years.
With the fresh shipment, the process of importing 240 buses from China has completed.
Only on Monday, Foreign Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari along with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the Red Bus service on one of the seven routes.
Route 1 is from Model Colony to Tower (29.5 kilometres) while the route 2 is from North Karachi to Indus Hospital in Korangi (32.9km).
