POLITICIANS’ ASSETS:

The politicians have a long tradition of not following the laws of the land. In this respect, the most glaring example is their casual attitude towards filing their tax returns with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) as well as filing their assets with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). A significant number of parliamentarians at federal and provincial levels fail to fulfil the legal requirement and a majority of those who do file the tax returns and wealth statements tend to grossly underreport their income and assets, too.

FACULTY DUES: The treatment meted out to visiting faculty members in some public universities is appalling. In fall 2019, I took an assignment as a visiting faculty member at the Karachi University Business School (KUBS). My honorarium was fixed and after submitting the result in January 2020, I submitted the relevant bill. It has been two years, but the university has not released my payment. I have made several calls and have also visited the department twice, but to no avail. The so-called prestigious business school should live up to its prestige and release the dues at the earliest.

DEAFENING SILENCE: It has been more than five months since the Pakistan Testing Services (PTS) conducted typing skill test for the Central Police Office for the post of junior clerk in BPS-11. Those who passed both written and typing tests are desperately waiting for their interviews, but no information has been updated on the website. This deafening silence is creating anxiety among the candidates.

LOST TRANSACTION: While making a transaction at a commercial bank close to Timber Market in Lahore, the system went off suddenly. I was being told that the electricity meter needs to be replaced, but certain palms have to be greased before that may happen. I was asked to use another branch. The central bank should ensure uninterrupted service to the customers.
