French paraglider goes missing in Hunza

GILGIT: A French paraglider, Xavier Alain, went missing after he took off from an upper area of Aliabad, administrative centre of Gilgit-Baltistan’s Hunza district, on Saturday.

Hunza’s Superintendent of Police Zahoor Ahmed told Dawn that the French paraglider took off with two Spanish paragliders.

The Spanish paragliders landed in Ganish area of Hunza after some time, but the French was missing. He said a search operation has been launched to locate the missing paraglider.

The area where the Spanish paraglider landed is dangerous and rescuers may face difficulty in finding the missing paraglider, he added.

The paragliders arrived in Hunza on June 30 and they stayed in a local hotel.

The deputy commissioner of Hunza said in a statement that a rescue operation has been launched to trace the missing paraglider. He said rescue teams included personnel of Rescue 1122, police and local volunteers.

According to sources, the two Spanish paragliders were also trying to contact their missing colleague.
