Six new model colleges to start functioning this August

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has received encouraging response from students in six new model colleges, which are going to start functioning from this academic session in August.

The new institutions are Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) G-13/1, IMCB G-13/2, Model College for Girls (ICG) G-14/4, Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) G-15, IMCB Pakistan Town and Mera Bagwal College from August.

Deputy Director General Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Asif Niazi, Director Model Colleges Aftab Tariq and other officers visited the IMCG G-14/4 and inspected the final touches being given to under construction college by Public Works Department.

College Principal Prof Dr Firdous Zahra Bashir briefed the FDE team that college has received hundreds of applications for admission in pioneer batch.

Speaking to Dawn, Director Colleges Aftab Tariq said that all six new colleges received good response of students and these colleges will start functioning from this August.

He said that DG FDE Dr Ikram Ali Malik has been monitoring ongoing development activities and he said after finishing work, the newly constructed buildings would be handed over to college administration in next few weeks so that they could start their functions this August.

Meanwhile, he said colleges opened admissions and receiving applications from students.

The director said that in coming years, the new colleges will receive overwhelming response due to their locations.

“After G-11, F-11, we had no college, so for the first time, the colleges are being opened in thickly populated sectors G-13, G-14 and G-15,” he said and added that the model college in Pakistan Town was also need of the hour.

Similarly, the director said that model college Mera Bagwal will also play an important role in promotion of college education in the rural area.

This college is located in a rural area near Bhara Kahu and was constructed back in 1989, but successive governments had failed to take measures to make it operational.

However, following continuous efforts during the last few years by former PTI Member of National Assembly, the FDE took over possession of the college building before deciding to start classes from this August.
