From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1947: Seventy-five years ago: Sind gesture

(EDITORIAL) The Sind Government have shown a fine gesture to the Indian Government by their assurance that even after the establishment of the Pakistan Government they will honour their commitments of supply of wheat, wheat products, rice and bran to the latter. Sind is a surplus food area. Ever since the situation on India’s food front became serious Sind has been rushing in food grains to needy areas with clock-work regularity. But for the timely and adequate help rendered by the League Ministry led by Mr. Ghulam Husain Hidayatullah there would have occurred many deaths from starvation in those places. Not only that. While foreign countries like Argentine were charging exorbitant prices for wheat from India, the Sind Government were content to sell their surplus stocks at reasonable prices. They were never swayed by any profit motive.

… The Sind Government’s decision furnishes proof — if indeed any proof were needed — that in economic and other spheres Pakistan would always be ready and willing to co-operate with Hindustan. It is a pity that no such proof of Hindustan’s willingness to co-operate with Pakistan is yet visible. On the contrary, attempts are being made by the enemies of Pakistan to dislocate its internal economy by wholesale transfer of their assets and withdrawal of their capital from Pakistan to Hindustan.
