Lukewarm response in Sukkur

SUKKUR, Dec 20: A complete shutter-down strike was observed on Tuesday in Shikarpur, Kand- hkot, Kash-more, Thull, Garhi Khairo, Karampur, Ghotki, Mir- pur Mathelo, Daharki and other parts of interior Sindh, except Sukkur, on the call of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Movement against the Kalabagh dam.

In Sukkur the business community gave a lukewarm response to the strike call, whereas scores of JSQM workers staged protest demonstrations at Sukkur bypass, Garam Godi, Military road, Thermal colony, Clock Tower, New Pind and other areas. They burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the government and anti-Sindh projects, especially the Kalabagh dam and Thal canal.

Rallies were taken out from Clock Tower, New Pind, Gharibabad and other parts. The protesters chanting slogans against the government and Kalabagh dam, marched through the main streets of the city and converged in front of the press club and observed a sit-in for two hours.

In Ghotki, hundreds of JSQM activists took out a rally and marched through city streets before staging a sit-in in front of the press club.

Police arrested some activists.

A complete strike was also reported from Khanpur Mahar, where a rally, led by Hazoor Bux Mahar, was taken out. The rally reached the press club where a sit-in for three hours was observed.

In Daharki police arrested 10 activists of JSQM for pelting stones on vehicles and were released in the evening.

SANGHAR: There was no response to the strike call in the district where business activities and traffic remained normal.

MITHI: Business activities remained normal in the Tharparkar district while traffic on roads was thin.
