Gunmen set free gang rape suspect from police custody in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Gunmen set free their accomplice arrested in a kidnapping and gang rape case from the police custody on Friday, police said.
The police had arrested a man in connection with the kidnapping and gang rape of a woman. During interrogation, the suspect told the police that the Kalashnikov used by the suspects during kidnapping of the woman had been kept in a house at Ghauri Town.
The police formed a nine-member team to raid the house. However, four persons armed with weapons intercepted the team when it reached a street near the house at around 5:45am and opened indiscriminate fire on the police vehicles with Kalashnikovs and pistols.
The police team retaliated but during the cross firing the wheels of the police vehicles were burst, said the police.
“The attackers set free their handcuffed accomplice from the police custody and escaped on two motorcycles, leaving one bike behind,” it added.
Over the incident, a case was registered at the Koral police station under section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act and 324, 353, 427, 186 and 225-B of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Four persons had abducted a woman at gunpoint in a Vigo from Gulberg Green on Sept 4.
