STRANGE DECISION

The behaviour of the opposition leader, like the decision to contest all the seats in the forthcoming by-elections, is rather strange. Even if he wins all the seats, he will obviously resign from all but one that would lead to another round of by-elections, costing the exchequer billions of rupees. By deciding not to contest all the seats, he may actually spare the country additional expenditure.

LAW FOR ALL: Discipline is the hallmark of any army worth its salt. Any attempt to subvert that is a crime under the law and should be crushed with an iron hand. A corps commander had once met the prime minister of the time in Islamabad without the permission of the army chief. He was sent packing almost right away as should have been the case. The current diatribe against the institution by opposition leaders deserves the same attitude.

PROTECT HILL PARK: The Hill Park in Karachi is losing its glory by the day which is a matter of concern for those who go there for walking and other recreational activities. Stray dogs can be seen roaming all the time all over the place, clearing away the pond from the ducks and the park from the people. The relevant authorities should pay attention to the worsening condition of the park.

DESTRUCTION: I am a resident of Rahim Khan Jamali village, situated about 8km from Shahdadkot. The people of our village are deprived of basic facilities. In 2010, the flood had inundated the whole village, and had destroyed roads, schools and homes which were never reconstructed. Recent floods have once again demolished homes and crops. The government and its officials of all shades and hues have done nothing so far except paying visits. Destruction and deprivation is all that one can see in the area.
