BHC summons power officials over inflated bills

QUETTA: Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Sardar Ahmed Haleemi issued notices to Balochistan chief secretary, principal secretary to prime minister, Wapda chairman, Qesco chief executive and Nepra and Ogra representatives on a constitutional petition filed against recovery of fuel cost adjustment (FCA) charges in electricity bills from shopkeepers and domestic consumers.

In the petition, filed by advocates Syed Nazir Agha and Habib Tahir, the petitioners said that hugely inflated electricity bills were being sent to shopkeepers and domestic consumers despite the fact that 80 per cent of Balochistan was inundated in the wake of floods.

The petition said that sending and receiving FCA charges in electricity bills from consumers was not only an additional burden on the people but a violation of human rights.

The bench issued notices to parties concerned on the petition and summoned them to appear at the hearing next week.
