Pemra takes two channels off-air for want of time-delay system

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Thursday suspended the transmissions of ARY News and Bol News for three days.

In a statement, the regulator said the order has been issued to suspend the broadcast of the two news channels for not implementing an effective time-delay mechanism, as directed by the authority.

“Both channels had continued their broadcasts without any effective time-delay mechanism,” a statement released by Pemra said.

The statement added that the two channels kept violating laws and the authority’s directives for which they were issued show-cause notices and their chief executives were summoned for a hearing in personal capacity.

However, they didn’t appear before the authority and instead submitted written responses, it said.

“In view of written replies and seriousness of the matter, the authority has suspended the transmission of Bol and ARY for three days and orders have been issued to all cable and distribution networks in this regard,” said Pemra.
