RAWALPINDI: Another 62 dengue patients arrived in three government run hospitals on Friday, taking the current season tally to 1122.

Total 272 confirmed dengue patients admitted in three government run hospitals including 63 in Holy Family Hospital (HFH), 116 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and 93 in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

As many as 203 patients in three government run hospitals belonged to Rawalpindi district, 62 to Islamabad, two to Haripur and one each to Abbottabad, Bagh, Chakwal, Rajanpur and Mianwali.

According to the data of District Health Authority, 42 patientsarrived from Potohar Town, five each from Rawalpindi Cantonment Board areas, five from city areas and six from Chaklala Cantonment Board.

District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anser Ishaq told Dawn that the anti-dengue campaign has been accelerated in 15 high risk union councils and the health authority found dengue larvae and mosquitoes more than last year.

He said that health authority officials had been directed to start fogging in low lying areas and in this regard the cooperation of the people was necessary. He said that there was a need to ensure cleanliness.

“The administration had been asked to lodge FIR against the owners of the domestic and commercial units and seal the commercial buildings and shops immediately after discovering dengue larvae,” he said.

Meanwhile, a man died after contracting dengue virus in Hassanabdal on Friday. Health authorities confirmed that Mohammad Asif, a resident of Mohallah Sakhinagar was admitted in a hospital in Rawalpindi where he passed away.

Soon after the death of the patient, health teams under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Arif Qureshi rushed to the spot to carry out fogging and spraying in Sabirabad area. Meanwhile, a team of the health department, led by Assistant Commissioner Samman Abbas and District Entomologist Mohammad Shafeeq sealed Beacon House School (Attock branch) after detection of dengue larvae in the premises of the school.

Moreover, a team of the health department also sealed a flour mill after detection of dengue larvae in the water storage points of the mill.
