Basketball: Army rout Fata

LAHORE, Dec 21: Defending champions Army notched up their first win of the 2nd All Pakistan Mushaf Ali Mir basketball tournament defeating Fata 87-56 on Wednesday. Army made a good impression in the opener of the tournament before leading the first half of play 43-20 and continued their impressive show in the following session.

Army’s best scorer was Pervez (28) and Fata were supported by Mohsin (18).

Three matches were also decided on the second day with last year’s runners-up Wapda, and Rangers Club scored victories while Railways were awarded a walkover against Punjab College which failed to turn up.

Wapda maintained supremacy against NWFP. Wapda finished the first half 47-25. Shahzad (15) was Wapda’s top scorer while Farman fought a losing battle for NWFP with 19 points.

Rangers Club carved out a splendid 74-39 win over Don Bosco A having led 42-17 at interval. Iftikhar led the scoring 22 points for the winners while Hasnain Butt dominated for the losers with (15) points.—APP
